Nagaoka Festival
今朝、NHKワールドで長岡まつりのニュースを見ました。
I watched a TV news of the Nagaoka Festival in Japan on NHK world this morning.

8月1日に長岡空襲の慰霊の花火があげられました。1945年同日に空襲がありました。
The fireworks show was done in Nagaoka on August 1. It was the remembrance day of the air raid over Nagaoka on August 1 in 1945.
長岡には初の原爆ファットマンに関する知られざる話があります。
There was an unknown story of Nagaoka regarding one of the first atomic bombs "Fat Man".
ファットマンはこれまでにないカボチャのような形状をしていたために、長崎投下の前の1945年7月20日に長岡の上空からカボチャ爆弾により投下テストが行われたのです。
Because Fat Man had a quite unique shape like a pumpkin, some dropping tests were done by so called pumpkin bomb over Nagaoka from the sky on July 20 in 1945 before Fat Man over Nagasaki.
かぼちゃ爆弾は原爆ではないですが、投下テストのためにファットマンと同じ重量と形状をしていました。テストでは死者が出ました。
原爆の被害の歴史はここから始まり、広島、長崎、そしてビキニ環礁へと続きました。
The pumpkin bomb was not an atomic bomb. But it was made as the same weight and same shape of Fat Man for the dropping test. Some people died of the test.
The history of the victim of the atomic bomb started here followed by Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Bikini Atoll.

I strongly recommend to watch the movie "Konosorano Hana" to learn about what happened in Nagaoka in the end of WWII.
