The 5th least visited country

何週間か前、ローカル新聞の記事を見て驚いたことがあります。

何とマーシャルは世界で最も来訪が少ない国のランキング5位であることです。たった5,000人/年の来訪しかありませんでした。

旅行者がきても特別な目的がない限りやることがないのが本当のところです。スクーバダイビングはその目的の一つになり得ます。

我々JICAボランティア4名はPADI Open Water Scuba Divingライセンス取得のレッスンを受けました。4本のダイブがあり、実践的なダイブ中の緊急時の訓練をしました。3本目の終わりまでとても辛かったです。

I read an article in the local newspaper several weeks ago. I was surprised at the following: The Republic of the Marshall Islands is ranked as the 5th least visited country in the world. The RMI came out with just 5,000 visitors a year.

Generally speaking, there are not so many things to do for tourists in the RMI except special purposes. Scuba diving can be the one of the purposes.

Three JICA volunteers and I had lessons to get PADI Open Water Scuba Diving License this month. We did four dives in the lesson. It was a very practical lesson to drill for emergency cases during dives. It was so hard until the end of the third dive.

4本目のダイブでは自分の肺の容量を僅かに調整することにより、水中の中性浮力をほぼ習得しました。これは素晴らしい経験でした。こんな風に肺が作用するとは、本当に面白かったです。これが醍醐味なんですね。きっと。

珊瑚に集まる沢山の種類の小さな熱帯魚を観ました。マーシャルだけに生息する３本クマノミもいました。フリーダイブ中に沈んだ船や飛行機、ヘリコプターの横を通りました。

In the fourth dive, I almost mastered neutral buoyancy control underwater by tiny adjustment to my lung volume. It was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed how it worked with that. I got that's real diving!

We saw so many kind of little tropical fishes gathering around coral reefs, including three-band Anemonefish, which only lives in the RMI. We passed by a sunken ship, an airplane and a helicopter during the free dive.

ダイビングはマーシャルが最も来訪が少ない国のランキング5位から抜け出すための手立てになると思います。環礁の外には経験を積んだダイバー向けの素敵なスポットが沢山あります。マーシャルに頻繁に訪れる理由になるかと思います。

I think diving is one of the ways for the RMI to get away from the top five of the least visited countries. There are so many extremely nice spots for experienced divers in the outer atolls. This is a good reason to visit the RMI often.
